Purpose

Inventor Glen D. Clark created the bathing chair’s unique sliding design for his own family members. To get started, a person or their caregiver slides the chair out of the tub. Once the person is seated, the chair simply slides back into the tub area, allowing them to enter the tub safely. Clark’s Heavy Duty Bathing Chair helps people maintain their independence for longer and eases the burden on caregivers at home or in senior living communities.

The Problem

Products like shower chairs can help, but they don’t solve the problem of how to safely get in and out of the tub.

Story Behind the Invention

Glen D. Clark

Inventor Glen D. Clark of La Pine, OR has developed a bathing chair that slides in and out of a tub to better accommodate those needing assistance.

With a small bathroom, Glen’s father was unable to get into the tub even with help. Since his parents were not able to afford a bathroom remodel, they had to make do with what they had. However, Glen just knew there had to be a better way. In turn, he was inspired to build them a sturdy slide-in seat for getting in and out of the bath. His father was able to slide the seat out, sit on it, and then with help, he could lift his legs over as he slid into the tub. Several years later, his mother began using it and was able to do it alone. This prototype greatly helped both of his parents and Glen knew it would help countless others, too. Now, Clark’s Heavy Duty Bathing Chair has been further developed and is ready for market!
